Center Processing Unit (C.P.U)

1. What is C.P.U?
Center Processing Unit (C.P.U) is the brain of any computer system. In a human body, all major decisions are taken by brain and all other parts of the body function as directed by the brain.

Similarly, in a computer system, all major calculations, manipulations and comparisons are made by the CPU. The CPU is also responsible for activating and controlling the operation by all over units of the computer system.

The major parts of C.P.U are:
  • Arithmetic and Logic Unit (A.L.U)
  • Control Unit (c.u)
  • Main Memory or Primary Memory

1.1 What is A.L.U?
An arithmetic logic unit (A.L.U) is a digital circuit used to perform arithmetic and logic operations. It represents the fundamental building block of the central processing unit (CPU) of a computer.

1.2 What is C.U?

The control unit (C.U) is a component of a computer's central processing unit (CPU) that directs operation of the processor. It tells the computer's memory, arithmetic/logic unit and input and output devices how to respond to a program's instructions.
